How to Capture Deep Sky Objects like Galaxies and Nebulae with Seestar

Table of Contents

Capturing deep-sky objects doesn’t have to be complicated. With Seestar, you can shoot nebulae and galaxies in just a few steps — here’s how.

    Step 1: Enter Stargazing Mode

Open the Seestar app and connect your Seestar telescope. Then tap Stargazing Mode to open the celestial object library.

Alternatively, you can tap the SkyAtlas icon at the bottom right corner of the shooting screen to access the Objects.

In the Objects, you can search for specific objects, view tonight's best celestial targets, or browse categories like galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters.

Step 2: Select a Target and Use GoTo

After selecting a target, tap the Locate button next to the object to view its position on the star chart.

Then tap GoTo. Seestar will automatically point toward the target and prepare for image capture.

Step 3: Wait for GoTo to Complete

During GoTo, the screen displays the angular distance to the selected object. When the distance shows 0.1 degrees, Seestar will capture an image to verify whether the position is correct.

    Step 4: Start Image Capture

Once GoTo is successful, Seestar will automatically initiate image enhancement and starfield leveling, which may take a few minutes. After this process, shooting will begin automatically.

If GoTo is stuck at 0.1 degrees or shows a failure message, it is usually due to the focus not being set to infinity or an obstruction in the lens's line of sight.

Check for obstacles: Look along the direction of the telescope tube to ensure there are no walls, trees, or clouds blocking the view. If obstacles are present, try selecting a different target for GoTo.
Verify focus: If no obstacles are found, exit GoTo mode and check the focus by observing the star points on the screen. If out of focus, cancel GoTo, tap the AF button on the right side of the shooting screen, and wait for autofocus to complete before retrying GoTo.

    Additional Notes

Seestar comes with a preset focus value for stargazing, which it automatically adjusts to upon startup for user convenience. However, environmental factors like temperature may cause slight deviations in focus. In such cases, follow this guide to readjust the focus and manually update the default value for future use.
