What Has Really Changed in the New Generation?
Seestar S50 made deep-sky imaging easier by integrating the telescope, camera, mount, autofocus, filters, and smart control into one compact system. With automatic GoTo, tracking, and guided imaging, it gave more people a simple way to start capturing the night sky.
S50 Pro builds on that foundation with a new dual-camera system, upgraded optics and drive system, longer battery life, and more storage—giving users wider framing, more precise tracking, and greater flexibility for longer imaging sessions.
The three upgrades you will notice most
4K telephoto + 4K wide-angle
The most visible change is the move from one telephoto camera to a dual-camera system. The S50 Pro telephoto camera uses a 1/1.2-inch, 8.3 MP sensor and captures 4K UHD images at 1x. Its 2.8-degree field of view is substantially wider than the S50's 1.46-degree view, making targets such as the Andromeda Galaxy and Orion Nebula easier to frame with more of their surrounding environment.

The new 4K wide-angle camera adds a 63-degree view for the Milky Way, star trails, astro time-lapse, and broader nightscapes. The practical benefit is simple: use telephoto when you want to go deeper, and wide angle when the relationship between sky and landscape is the image.

A 4-element apochromatic optical system
Both generations use a 50 mm aperture, so S50 Pro preserves the light-gathering and resolving foundation that made the S50 effective for compact deep-sky imaging. The new model advances from a 3-element to a 4-element apochromatic design, including ED glass.
The design is engineered to further control chromatic aberration and improve star shapes toward the edge of the frame. For users, that means the wider field is supported by an optical system built to keep stars cleaner and the background more neutral - not simply by showing more sky.

Near-zero-backlash precision drive
Astrophotography depends on more than the sensor and lens. The telescope must keep a moving target stable over many frames. S50 Pro's precision drive system is engineered for near-zero backlash, enabling smoother tracking and finer adjustments.
When used in Equatorial Mode, the system compensates for Earth's rotation and helps keep targets stable for longer capture sequences. The user benefit is not a headline specification; it is more time collecting useful data and less time lost to avoidable tracking error.
From deep-sky imaging to complete night-sky creation
S50 made it easier to capture nebulae, galaxies, the Sun, and the Moon. S50 Pro keeps those core experiences and adds more freedom over scale and composition.
A wider native deep-sky frame
The 2.8-degree telephoto field of view lets a single frame include more of a large target and its surrounding star field. That can reduce the number of mosaic panels needed for extended objects and make composition more intuitive. When an even wider result is the goal, DSO Mosaic can stitch a broader scene while preserving telephoto detail and output up to 8K.

A 63-degree view of the sky and the landscape
The wide-angle camera changes the type of story Seestar can tell. Starry Sky Mode supports Milky Way imaging, star trails, astro time-lapse, and multiple Milky Way stitching formats, including a one-tap Milky Way arch and high-resolution panorama options.

For nightscapes, Landscape Freeze processes the tracked sky and fixed foreground separately. Stars can remain sharp as the system follows the sky, while the landscape stays natural and stable. The result is a more complete approach to astrophotography: not only isolated celestial objects, but the visual connection between Earth and sky.
Built for longer nights
More resolution, more creative modes, and longer capture plans all place greater demands on power and storage. S50 Pro expands both so that the workflow can grow with the imaging system.
Up to 9 hours of runtime
Battery capacity increases from 6,000 mAh to 10,000 mAh - about 67% more capacity - with laboratory-tested runtime increasing from about 6 hours on S50 to up to 9 hours on S50 Pro. This gives users more room to cover a long observing window, camp away from convenient power, or run a multi-target session with fewer interruptions.
128 GB of internal storage
Internal eMMC storage doubles from 64 GB to 128 GB. That extra capacity supports 4K images, raw files, mosaics, time-lapses, and longer sessions with less pressure to stop and clear space during the night.

The original S50 made astrophotography more accessible by bringing traditionally separate astronomy tools into one compact, intelligent system.
